Welcome to the Seeds of Innovation Web site, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education and created by the Institute for the Advancement of Emerging Technologies in Education at AEL.
Among the goals of the landmark No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 is the effective integration of twenty-first-century technologies into teacher training and curriculum development, with the ultimate aim of establishing successful, research-based instructional methods that incorporate these technologies. The technology integration mandates contained in No Child Left Behind consolidate those established by two earlier initiatives: the Technology Literacy Challenge Fund (TLCF) and Technology Innovation Challenge Grant (TICG) programs.
Like No Child Left Behind, the TICG Program emphasized high-quality professional development opportunities for teachers, administrators, and other school staff to ensure a smooth transition to increased technology use in the classroom. Within the TICG projects described on this Web site are "seeds of innovation"—demonstrated professional development models and methods that can be replicated or adapted according to the needs of education agencies. It is our hope that these projects will guide agencies in the successful development of high-quality professional development programs—programs that, as underscored by No Child Left Behind, will ultimately lead to greater student achievement.
We invite you to browse through the site and gather ideas on how to successfully put technology to work to reform and enhance education in your school and community.
